The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of James Hanzimanolis can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for James "Mitso" Hanzimanolis

James (Mitso) Hanzimanolis, 77, of Harrison, NJ passed away very peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Born on the island of Tilos, Greece to George and Sofia Hanzimanolis, Jim met his bride, Sharyn and they were married fifty-eight years. They wanted the perfect American Dream and they set off to the U.S. in 1960. Jim embraced the American culture and its opportunities for a family. He was an amazing father to three children, George (deceased 2015), Thomas and Dorothy.

Jim started working at a restaurant in NY, where he learned what would eventually become his passion; cooking and satisfying his customers. He moved to NJ with his family and worked for 40 years in restaurant services. He worked hard, had fun, provided for his family and his community.

Jim was always involved in his church community. He proudly served on the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Newark Board of Trustees for many years and volunteered as a cook for annual festivals among other monthly church functions, first in Newark and most recently in Roseland, NJ.

Jim will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and godsons, Ed Pappageorge and Michael August. James’ legacy lives on in his six adored grandchildren, Dimitri, James, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Alexander and Alexa.

Jim was blessed to come from a large family. He is pre-deceased by his parents and sister, Maria. He leaves behind his sisters, Anna, Evangelia, Nikki and Constantina, brother, Nicholas and their spouses and children.

On behalf of Sharyn, Thomas and Laurie Hanzimanolis, Douglas and Dorothy Rosa and their families, we invite you for visitation at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068 on Monday, May 7th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

Funeral Services at Ss Nicholas, Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Laurel Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068 will be on Tuesday, May 8th at 10 am, with interment to follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ss Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
